From Adam to Jesus

The Jewish Roots of Christianity

Christianity is deeply rooted in Judaism. It cannot exist without the Jewish faith and the Jewish God—the God of Abraham. The Hebrew Bible (Torah), which forms the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, documents the creation of the universe and humanity by this Creator God.

From Adam to Jesus

* Adam and Eve, the first humans, lived in the Garden of Eden with God. Their disobedience, influenced by Satan, led to their exile. * God cursed the serpent (Satan) and foretold a future conflict between the serpent and the seed of the woman—a prophecy Christians believe points to Jesus. * Humanity's sinfulness continued, prompting God to send a great flood. Only Noah, a righteous man, and his family were saved via the Ark. God then promised never to destroy the earth by flood again, sealing His promise with a rainbow. * From Noah’s lineage came Abram (later Abraham), who rejected idolatry and believed in the one true God. God promised him countless descendants and, miraculously, Abraham and Sarah had a son, Isaac, in their old age. * Before Isaac, Abraham had a son, Ishmael, through a maidservant, which was not God’s original plan. Still, God blessed Ishmael’s descendants, believed to be ancestors of many Middle Eastern peoples. * Isaac's son Jacob had 12 sons, forming the 12 tribes of Israel, the Jewish people. Jesus Christ Himself was born into this lineage through a divine virgin birth.

The Jewish Calendar

The Hebrew calendar begins from the creation of Adam, making the current year 5785. It is a lunisolar calendar, aligning lunar months with the solar year to ensure festivals occur in the right seasons. It is 3,761 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar.
