From Joshua to King David
Joshua and the Conquest of Canaan
A new leader chosen by Moses was Joshua. Then Moses dies. All these Israelites had a tough task ahead of them, to conquer the land since the promised land was not empty, as their ancestor Abraham had found in his time. With the Ten Commandments (now broken in two or more pieces) with some other relics (manna and Aaron's Rod) put in a chest what is known as the Ark of the Covenant which served Israelites as a visible reminder of God's presence since the Pillar of Fire and Pillar of Smoke stopped appearing once they were in the promised land (Canaan). With Joshua's leadership and God's help, Israelites established themselves in this land as strong people.
Decline and the Request for a King
All Israelites were to follow the laws given by Moses and live peacefully. But as the story goes, Jewish people again became arrogant, immoral and started worshipping idols, and they were being conquered by nearby kings. At that point Israelites asked God to provide a King for them who could fight off other nearby kings. So instead of self-ruling they wanted a King. So God provided King Saul who was weak in faith.
King David
Then God chose King David through prophet Samuel. True Prophets are considered God's messengers in Jewish religion and Samuel was one of the most respected prophets. Under King David, Israelites were able to win Jerusalem from the Jebusite people and it was made the Jewish capital. This is the same David of the "David and Goliath Story".
King Solomon
King David's son, King Solomon followed after King David. He was blessed with wisdom by God and he built a temple for God as it was instructed in Jewish scriptures by prophets.
