The Story of Moses

Birth and Early Life

As one pharaoh ordered to kill all male children of Jewish people, this brings us to the story of Moses who was first born but had to be thrown in the river as ordered by the King. Miraculously or according to God's plan, baby boy Moses was found by Pharaoh's daughter who raised him as one of her own children. But many other Jewish male children were not so lucky. This was painstakingly difficult for the whole Jewish community. As Moses grew up he learned that his heritage was Jewish. Moses became very angry when he saw one Egyptian soldier beating up a Jew and he killed that Egyptian soldier.

Exile and the Burning Bush

A few days after that incident, Moses saw two Jews fighting. So Moses told them not to fight since they both were Jewish. So one of the Jewish men who was beating up the other Jewish man, asked Moses "who gave him authority to intervene." He further told Moses that if Moses had a plan to kill him as well just like the Egyptian soldier? Now Moses was afraid and also disappointed in Jewish people since they were fighting among themselves, so he went away from Egypt and lived out of Egypt for 40 years. After that one day, Moses sees a "Burning bush" and he goes to check it out when he encounters the Creator God who asks Moses to take off his sandals since he was in the vicinity of God. As asked by God, Moses takes the mission of rescuing all Israelite people out of Egypt and becomes successful.

The Exodus and Ten Commandments

There is the epic story of "Parting the Red Sea" by Moses with help of God, where all Israelites were able to cross over but Pharaoh's army was drowned in the Red Sea as the parted sea closed over. Moses went up on Mt. Sinai, to meet God, and stayed there about 40 days. God gave the famous Ten Commandments to Moses to give to all Israelites.

Wilderness Years and Death

Since Israelites were without Moses during these 40 days, Israelites got frustrated waiting and thought Moses would not come back and they started worshipping an idol. They were also complaining that they were better off in Egypt than in this desert. When Moses returned and he saw idol worshipping by Israelites, he was also angry and threw the tablet of Ten Commandments which broke into two pieces. Due to this God was displeased and told Israelites that their generation would not see the promised land of Canaan (where their ancestor Abraham originally lived). So Israelites had to live in the desert for 40 years until their generation passed. Even Moses was not allowed by God to enter the promised land due to once Moses acting proudly. Moses dies and the reign of all Israelites was given to Joshua.
